Pepe Reina today insisted Liverpool fans can trust the Reds to get their season back on track after a mixed start to the 2009-10 campaign.
Defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have seen Rafael Benitez's side lose two of their opening three matches.

While Reina accepts there is plenty of room for improvement, the goalkeeper is adamant the Liverpool players will turn things around sooner rather than later.

"The fans can trust us until the end because as a team we have always been strong," the 26-year-old told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Obviously we are disappointed because it is not normal for us to play three games and lose two of them, but we have to look forward, try to improve and carry on with our title challenge.

"We are the same team as last season - the same team that won 86 points in the league.

"Nothing has changed except that some players have left and some have come in, but we are still a strong team.

"We have plenty of good players in the dressing room and we have to look forward because as soon as we win two or three games in a row things will change a lot."

Reina predicts the title race will be much more open this season and is anticipating strong challenges from the likes of Villa, Spurs and Manchester City - although he admits it is far too early for anyone to be speaking about potential champions.

"Teams like Villa, Tottenham and Man City will be involved in the title race and I think the eventual champions will probably win no more than 82 points this season," said Anfield's No.25.

"Tottenham are playing at a good level. They were probably better than us in the first game of the season, especially in the first half.

"But it is too early to speak about teams. We have to wait a little bit longer."

On a personal note, Reina has begun the season in impressive fashion, leading manager Benitez to hail the custodian as the 'complete goalkeeper'.

However, the Spain international says he would gladly swap any individual praise for maximum points for the Reds.

"I am pleased that I have probably had two good games at the beginning of the season, but I can't be happy because we have lost two out of three," he said.

"I know Rafa trusts me and it is positive when you feel this trust on yourself. All I can do is keep working and trying to improve. I am only 26, so there is still plenty of time for me to improve.

"But every single player, member of staff and everybody who works at Liverpool help make up this great club, and it is each of us that can help Liverpool be successful."

The Reds will be looking to improve on their impressive showing last season after finishing as runners-up.

Rafa Benitez enjoys a good record at White Hart Lane, although Liverpool will be keen to avenge the two defeats they suffered at the hands of Harry Redknapp's side in North London last term.

Glen Johnson could make his league bow for the Reds men after swapping Portsmouth for Merseyside over the summer.

LFC Story

If it wasn't for one man, Liverpool Football Club would never have been born. When Everton left Anfield in a dispute over rent in 1892, club chairman John Houlding stayed behind along with a handful of supporters and just three first-team players. But he was determined to see football continue at the ground. He formed a new club from scratch, chose the name Liverpool… and created a legend.

Even John Houlding couldn't have predicted how successful it would become. More than 100 years on, no English club can match the LiverpoolFC roll of honour; League Champions 18 times, FA Cup winners seven times, League Cup winners seven times, European Cup winners five times and UEFA Cup winners three times.

When it is completed, the History channel will chart the rise and rise of Liverpool FC to the very summit of the England game, from the struggles of the early years right up to Gerard Houllier's historic treble in 2001. This channel will recall glorious domestic victories and European triumphs and reflect on the tragedies of Heysel and Hillsborough.

We've focused on 10 key dates in Liverpool Football Club's history to begin with but over time, we'll have over 100 chapters in this section alone as we present the ultimate history of England's greatest ever football club. This is a story of incredible passion and pride - a story that not only inspires Liverpool fans but football supporters the world over.

RAFA: CARRA WILL BE READY FOR SPURS
Paul Hassall at Anfield 09 August 2009
Rafael Benitez is confident Jamie Carragher will be fit for next Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener with Spurs.
The Reds defender limped off after just 15 minutes of the pre-season clash with Atletico Madrid but the boss revealed his decision to replace his vice-captain was purely precautionary.
"He's okay," Benitez told his post-match press conference.
"He twisted his ankle and it was just a precaution to bring him off because we have had problems with the other centre backs and we wanted to protect him."
Asked if it was a concern with Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger already out injured, Benitez added: "We will have to wait now, the three players are injured, but improving so I think they will be fit for the next game.
"When you twist your ankle, you normally need two or three days and after you will have the inflammation, but you will be okay."
The injury to Carragher saw Mikel San Jose partner Daniel Ayala for the remainder of the match and Benitez admits the injury problems in defence have left him with a decision to make.
"We have two options; one is to bring someone in and the other is to keep working with the young players," he said. "If everything is okay and we have the three centre backs fit, someone will be the fourth, so we will have to decide.
"At this moment, one solution is to keep working with them. Young players sometimes need opportunity so we will see."
